Mikayla Elias

I am a queer writer based out of Kent, England via Nashville, Tennessee. Poetry is my favorite genre, but I also write nonfiction essays and dabble in a bit of flash fiction.

I began working as a typewriter poet in 2022 while living in the States. Originally, I started the process as a way to promote my self-published poetry collection, bending toward the light, but I quickly learned how much I loved connecting with others through writing for them. Since then, poetry has taken me across the US and Europe, and I have written hundreds of poems for folks at private events, markets, and busking pop-ups.

In addition to creating typewriter poetry, I lead regularly-occurring workshops that encourage fellow writers out of their comfort zones. My workshops strive to be a supportive space for writers of all genres and experience levels.

My own writing focuses on nostalgia, mental health, and communion with one another. In addition to the full-length collection bending toward the light, I am the contributing editor of the zine re:animated. I currently am querying a second manuscript and have a couple others incubating. My second zine will be published late 2026.
